CHCECE005 Formative assessment
questions.

Activity 1
1. Why do toddlers require sleep and rest during the day?
For toddlers and young babies their bodies and minds are still growing. If they were to
participate in a full day of activities, they can become quite stressful and or in turn become
overtired, unsettled or cranky. For these specific reasons most childcare centres have
integrated set rest periods for children to calm their minds and bodies for a certain time to
allow their bodies to recharge for the rest of the day.

2. A parent asks that their child be allowed to sleep whilst soft music is playing as
it has proven to help the child fall asleep. Should you do this?
If a child has a personal preference and significantly benefits from having soft music
playing in the background whilst they sleep, an educator can use this tool to settle the
child for rest time. As a whole, soft calming music in the background promotes safe sleep
in a child along with adequate growth in their mind as the music is stimulating their brain
cells.
