SUBJECT: Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles TASK NO.:

How can the school promote the socio-emotional development of children and adolescents?
Provide simple methods/ways to incorporate socio-emotional activities into the learning
environment.
The learning institutions as a context of child development can be a fundamental
avenue for children and adolescents to fortify their social and emotional facets. Just as how
paramount schools are for academic learning so as in encouraging socialization and
building emotional strengths. The school is also a hot pot for people of diverse
personalities, backgrounds and even ideologies to converge whom we encounter often if
not always. Regardless of individual differences, learners learn to interact with one another,
build understanding and relationships as well as acknowledge diversity among others.
Undeniably, children and adolescents also deciphers the significance of empathy and both
direct and indirect expression of feelings and regulating them as they mold connections
with fellow students. On the other side, it is inevitable that sometimes students become
victims of bullies at school. This somehow hamper their social and emotional progress if
unsupervised, albeit on the bright side, it can also be a turning point for them to strengthen
their socio-emotional stamina as they rise against bullies.
As a teacher in the making, I can be a propeller for students’ social and emotional
fortitude by incorporating positive stimulating-methods in my class. These are the three
main activities that I thought will truly accentuate my students’ intrinsic development.
Foremost, we will take turns in sharing daily quotes, ponder upon it and share some
profound insights. Actually when I was in Senior High School, we always have daily quotes,
like the one mentioned, on my DISS subject and will integrate it to my future class. Then,
having teamwork tasks will be a viable socio-emotional activity for my students to
emphasize the value of cooperation and collaboration among them. Being a team player is
crucial especially as you venture into the real world. Most importantly, creating a sociable
and conducive learning environment as well as fostering positive self-talks with my class. I
have always believe on how our thoughts can eventually become our destiny, thus, I have
been optimistic since then. Through positive conversation, I am certain I can ignite even a
slimmest glint of optimism to my students in the coming years. At my best guess, these are
fundamental yet basic ways on incorporating social and emotional development in an
educational setting.
