You are caring for Dale Mayman. Dale Mayman was found unconscious. When he
awoke in the emergency room he complains of being itchy, bloated, and nauseated. He
states this has been "coming on for months". His renal function tests reveal 18%
functioning capacity of his kidneys. He is put on hemodialysis.
Dale Mayman has develop acute renal injury secondary to his hypertension. He is
hospitalized.
Orders:
Vital signs q 2 hours.
Strict Intake and Output
Diet: High protein, low sodium, low potassium,
Fluid restriction: 32 ounces/24 hours total fluids
Hemodialysis to be done 3 x/ week.
Relate the concepts of perfusion and elimination to Mr. Mayman's current condition.

experiencing a sickle cell crisis. He is hospitalized for this crisis. At this time he is
experiencing acute kidney injury from the sickle cell crisis. Explain the pathology that
results in this renal complication.

when a patient with sickle cell suffers a crisis they may suffer with pain which
they are treated with anti-inflammatory meds. These drug are known to induce
AKI the kidney suffers because of complications of sickling of RBCs in the blood
vessels. The complications of sickle cell can lead to loss of function with the
kidney. The patient would need to be closely monitored during the crisis
