Diabetes is a chronic multisystem disease that is characterized by hyperglycemia related to abnormal insulin production, impaired insulin utilization or both. patients that have diabetes are typically show signs and symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Both lead to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke ______________________________________________________________________ Task Discuss how the nurse can compassionately care for patients who are obese and need to change their lifestyle. How can the nurse support and empower the person to be successful? I would first do a physical assessment to see if there are underlying issue causing the patient to be obese. I would need to know the patient’s willingness to and what could be changed. If the issue is related to diet I would show the patient better ways of developing food plans, give her hand outs of healthy choices and ways to adjust to better choices. I would should the patient by being supporting and encouraging the patient. I would praise them for effort and continue to encourage good measures.
