This paper tackles all about the mechanisms and processes involved in our digestive system. Aside from this, a comprehensive study about the enzymes and hormones involved are carefully described and gave each basic structures importance to our survival. The digestive system (dis = apart; gerere = to carry) is composed of organs that provide for the assimilation of the energy substrates necessary for life as well as for the elimination of the unusable components. It plays a major role in water retention and in protecting the body from potentially harmful substances if ingested. Nonetheless, the main functions of the digestive system include ingestion of food; secretion of digestive juices; mixing and propulsion of food; digestion of food into small, absorbable molecules; absorption of digestive products across the GI tract wall and into the body; and defecation.
