• Identify and understand the core values of communication.

Media freedom
• right to express ideas, beliefs, and views about the world
• important for any democratic society
• right to research and have enough information
• absence of censorship
• freedom is not absolute – people still must follow natural, divine,
criminal, civil, statutory, or common law
Media equality
• no special favor by the media for those in power/position
• able to express criticism
• linked to media diversity – must be non-discriminatory
• access of information must be available to all
