Section 1 - Background with Demographics
Harvey is a 30-year-old Caucasian heterosexual male. He is a marine corps veteran and
was recently honorably discharged. Harvey has been in the military since he was 18 years old. In
those 12 years, Harvey did four tours overseas. After his discharge, he has moved back to
Georgia and lives with his brother. Harvey is living with his brother until he can get on his feet
and get a job. He has been living in GA for four months.
Harvey is divorced and has a three-year-old daughter. His ex-wife, Julia, was created on
tour, causing an uncivil divorce. Julia took everything during the divorce and left Harvey with
nothing. Harvey and Julia have been divorced for two years. Harvey did not take the divorce well
and started drinking. Harvey reached out for help with his drinking when the sergeant noticed he
was drunk at a morning meeting. Harvey went to therapy for his alcohol use. He was in therapy
for six months and did weekly Alcohol Anonymous meetings until his last tour.

offered therapy when he returned from the tour and denied it. He is having nightmares every
night and has a hard time sleeping. Harvey drinks to help him sleep and numb "the pain" of war.
Harvey can become destructive when he drinks too much at night. He can zone out and not be
present during conversations. He is jumpy, and loud noises cause him to hide or go in attack
mode. Julie, his ex-wife, stated that she woke up to him choking her when they were married. He
did not realize he was choking her and was confused when he came to.
Harvey has seen a counselor after each tour except his last tour. He said he went
counseling on a precaution but honestly did not notice a difference in himself. He would only go
to counseling for a month after a tour and said he did not think he needed it anymore. He
