The ethnic population I have chosen is the Hispanic population in New York City where live. The Hispanic population makes up 29 percent of the total population, making it the second largest ethnic population in New York City. 2. Identify a health problem or need for health promotion from your chosen cultural population, based on the Leading Health Indicators (LHI) priorities from Healthy People. (See the HealthyP Leading Health Indicators website link in the Assignment Guidelines for this assignment). This might include a specific age or gender. You will use the specific cultural focus to complete your assignment One of the objectives of Learning Health Indicators is to put focus on upstream measures by identifying different risk factors as well as behaviors facing a specific population or community as opposed to focusing on only the outcome of the disease. The health problem identified is overweight and obesity among Hispanics, which is at all-time high. More than 41 percent and 48 percent of men and women respectively aged 20 and more years can be classified as obese. Obesity is a health risk factor that eventually leads to severe and even life threatening medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, some form of cancer and other chronic conditions. This data shows that Hispanics do have a higher rate of overweight and obesity than in the case of non-Hispanic whites. 3.
