Cushing’s pt
o Increase amounts of cortisol, which cause anxiety and mood changes
o Fluid volume overload
o Hypertensive
o Hyperkalemic
o Moon face
Opioid causes constipation, slows down peristalsis
o Also can cause respiratory distress
PPIs and antacids cause constipation also
TIA (transient ischemic attack)
o Mini stroke, symptoms resolve within minutes -1 hour
o In order to diagnosis all neurologic symptoms must have resolved with 24 hours
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
o Most important thing is to prevent sudden rupture control BP
Etanercept is a disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug
o A strong immunosuppressive pt taking have an increased risk for infection
o Before treatment all pt should be screened for TB, hep B & C
o Black box warning for possibility of malignancy
Systemic infection
o Increase WBC, fever, Tachycardia, palpable lymph nodes in groin area, white
clammy skin
Local infection
o Present of purulent fluid at site, red swollen skin around site
Jitter and tachypnea infant symptoms of manifesting hypoglycemia
Pulmonary contusion is damage to the lung parenchyma with loss of normal lung
function and structure, edema and blood collection.
o Not seen on x-ray immediately seen several hours after
breast cancer masses are unmovable and are irregular shaped lumps with dimples on
overlying skin

Test 2
Cataract surgery
o 3 days before pt should start using a trio of eye drops, and continued for 2 weeks
following surgery
Corticosteroids, antibiotics, NSAIDs)
o Pt can have a LIGHT breakfast, pt is not receiving general anesthesia
o Only one eye is operated on at a time
o Blurred vision may last for several days
o Pt should report severe pain, redness, and discharge, dvelopmentof new floaters
and light flashes
o Pt should sleep on unaffected side
o Avoid activities that will increase intraocular pressure
Heavy lifting, sleeping on stomach, coughing
Child hard test should be done at the end of examination
o Ear, eye, mouth and genital examination
Phalen’s test
o For carpal tunnel syndrome
o Have pt place wrist flexed position for 60 seconds, if numbness or burning occurs
may indicate carpal tunnel syndrome
Swan-neck deformities rheumatoid arthritis
Bouchard’s nodes and Heberden’s node osteoarthritis
Ulcerative colitis
o Inflammation and damage to the colon
o Flare ups cause abdominal cramping and bloody diarrhea
o Medication includes steroids and immunosuppressant drugs p tar increase
risk for infection
o Nurse should monitor i&o risk for dehydration due to heavy diarrhea and
decrease in absorption of fluids
o Low fiber diet -> reduce intestinal stimulation and workload
o No dairy, cause abdominal cramping and flatulence
Narcan treats opiate overdose
Bone marrow aspiration
o Have the pt void , VS, position pt in prone (aspirated from posterior iliac crest) or
supine position (aspirated from sternum or anterior iliac crest)
If suction level in control chamber is less that -20 then sterile fluids needs to be added to
ensure adequate suction is applied
The sense of smell decrease w/ age
UTI
