WRITTEN REPORT
Identify at least two (2) sections for each of the following codes that can be applied to
building construction. In your own words, explain its relevance and importance in our
profession and further discuss why we need to impose and follow these regulations
1. National Building Code of the Philippines
2. National Structural Code of the Philippines
3. Architectural Code of the Philippines
4. Electrical Code of the Philippines
5. National Plumbing Code of the Philippines
, NATIONAL BUILDING CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES
SECTION 806: Size and Dimension of Rooms
This section presents the minimum size and horizontal dimension of a room or area in a
house or building. A civil engineer must take into consideration the division of a building before
planning the structural aspect of it. Some walls being used in the division of a building are load-
bearing. Thus, it helps in the load management of a building. There is a struggle sometimes in the
division especially where there is a small land area available for a house construction, thus
resulting to a small floor area, unless a second floor is introduced. With this, there are standards
needed to follow regarding the minimum area and dimensions for specific rooms/area in a house
for it to be more comfortable to live in. That makes the content of this section important to be
practiced and implemented when creating rooms since everyone wants a comfortable place to live
in.
Imagine a very small comfort room. The door can’t be opened fully since it hits the fixtures.
You only have enough space to stand inside because the water closet had much of the room area.
No one wants to experience having that kind of comfort room.
The civil engineer is a part in the planning of the residential construction project and that
includes the lay-outing and the division of the floor area into rooms. Thus, the knowledge on the
standard size of rooms in a residential building is important since it concerns the space for
movement, sunlight and natural air for residents.
SECTION 301: Building Permits
This section states that there is a need to have a building permit before starting the
construction process. A building permit is needed to ensure that the design, plans and
specifications made have no errors and that it follows the standards provided by several codes.
This building permit also ensures that the construction process is monitored and
supervised, and tests are made to guarantee the safety of the building being constructed. As
stated, a civil engineer, the owner, or any authorized person/firm can’t conduct the construction
without having a business permit.
