Explain each briefly.
SDLC approach can be viewed as a serial process, whereby
each stage produces an output which in turn becomes the
input for the next stage. Alternatively it can be viewed as a
series of interactive cycles in which prior phase can be
modified by the result of subsequent phases.
The system life cycle is the oldest method for building
information systems. The life cycle methodology is a phased
approach to build a system, dividing systems development
into formal stage. The system life cycle is still used for
building large complex systems that require a rigorous and
formal requirements analysis predefined specifications and
tight controls over the systems building process
System development may not always proceed in an orderly,
sequential process as proposed by the SDLC (SYSTEM
DEVELOPMENT LIFECYCLE). SD is not undertaken by
systems development staff.
The following sections briefly introduce a number of
alternative systems development strategies, focusing on who
will carry out development and how the SDLC may be
altered.
END-USER COMPUTING
A system may be developed by the user of that system and
not by specific development staff. To develop their own
systems, end-users may utilize 4GLs such as Visual Basic,
or they might use database tools such as ORACLE or
ACCESS. Alternatively, they may use Excel or Lotus to
provide specific numerical and financial modeling
systems. End user developed systems are normally on a
small scale and are undertaken by individuals to create
their own personal work system.
