Planned Change: Leadership of Reduction in Workforce
In the current healthcare market, organizations must remain financially stable, solvent,
and competitive. An organization must analyze its resource use, develop, and implement a plan
for changes necessary to remain financially stable. The outcome from the analysis may result in
the decision to implement a reduction in workforce (RIF) in the ever-changing healthcare market
(Daniels & Ritter, 2018). Roxboro Medical Center has found itself in the position of a
decreasing market share and needs to reorganize the organization. With the decrease in patient
volume, the decision has been made to perform and RIF of the management team by thirty
percent over the next six months.
Approach to the Organizational Mandate
Throughout this paper, an examination of the knowledge and skills needed to develop,
plan, and implement a reduction in workforce (RIF) within the organization, the impact this
process will have on the organizations, and the impact on the staff involved. This paper will
outline the plan in detail which will include how decisions are made during the RIF and
information that can affect those decisions. It will also include the difficulties or challenges
encountered, the conflict that can occur, and how ethics play into the decision-making process of
a RIF. A proposed reorganization plan will be outlined, the model for the proposed change
including the potential benefit or conflict of the model. Lastly, what is the potential impact of
the RIF on the organization, the staff, and the strategies utilized to overcome the potential issues
of the process?
The decision to restructure an organization is not easy or taken lightly, the effects this
process has on the staff, the community, and the leaders can be devastating to an organization. It
is vital as a leader to incorporate the mission, vision, and values of the organization during the
