Organizational Behavior Case Study: Whole Foods
Introduction
Teams are comprised of individuals who play different but complementary roles that help in
the realization of goals. Team success is achieved when all members help each other to fulfill
their responsibilities. Success is achieved by the willingness of the team members to play their
roles and help out other members as well. Whole Foods is a perfect depiction of this
phenomenon and this paper examines how it has been able to achieve that.
Question 1
The teams at Whole Foods can be described as autonomous in the sense that they are
given the freedom to think and act independently as long as the outcomes are in tandem with the
premeditated goals. The departmental teams have been given the freedom to manage their affairs
in a manner that enhances their productivity (Colquitt et al. 2011). These management teams are
solely responsible for the performance excellence the organization has achieved so far. Freedom
and autonomy to act creatively and independently have helped the organization to become more
prosperous thanks to the enhanced employees’ efficiency realized as a result. Other ambitious
companies can borrow a leaf from the firm in terms of adopting autonomy in boosting
management efficiency.
Question 2
One of the biggest advantages that come with the recruitment process at Whole Foods is
that the organization can achieve a high level of employee satisfaction. This is a feat that many
organizations often find hard to achieve. The successful candidate has to receive nods from two-
thirds of the recruitment panel. By so doing they feel appreciated and can do all they can to be
productive at their workstations. This approach also helps the company to only get the best
