Land (Canaan) – Started with God’s call to leave. Required faith and trust in God’s promise. Genesis 12:2 Abram God’s call for Abram to move by faith. God’s promise of seed and blessing. Abram’s call. God promised to make Abram a “great nation,” “bless” him, and make his “name great”. Genesis 12:3 Abram God’s call for Abram to move by faith. God’s promise of blessing and to bless Abram’s seed. Develops from the previous two verses. God emphasizes who will be blessed and cursed. Genesis 12:7 Abram Abram left with his wife, Lot and possessions and was at the Oak of Moreh (v. 6). God promises “this” land to Abram’s offspring. Develops at the beginning of Abram’s journey. Required faith and trust that God could provide what He promised. Genesis 13:14-15 Abram Abram experienced a famine (12:10), left Egypt (12:10- 20), and separated from Lot (13:11- 12). Abram settled in the land of Canaan (v. 12). God shows Abram the land He will give to him and his offspring “forever”. God reaffirms and strengthens Abram’s faith. Genesis 13:16 Abram Continuation from 13:14-15. God promises “offspring as the dust of the earth” Corresponds to 13:14-15. Abram needed faith because he was still childless.
