First act is the exposition, conflict and characters are being introduced with a big fight.

Main conflict: Feud between the families (Capulet and Montague)

• Can't fight, because they will be beheaded.



Important characters:

• Benvolio -> Lawful, peaceful
• Tybalt -> Chaotic, egocentric
• Montague:
o Mum
o Dad
o Romeo -> Dramatic, self-centered, overemotional
• Capulet:
o Mum -> Only busy with power, thinks Juliet should already be a mum (Critique on
marrying early)
o Dad -> Completely disinterested with his family
o Juliet -> Only wants to marry for love, very easy to fall in love, (a bit) dramatic
(I;v,133-134) "If he be married // My grave is like to be my wedding bed." Dramatic
