McCormick & Company is an organization that sells flavoring and spices. The company
is considered successful because of the way it conducts the training and development of its
employees. According to the company’s CEO, McCormick & Company invests a lot of resources
in training and development. It is necessary that the company keeps conducting training and
development (McCormick & Company, n.d.). To do this, the VP of learning has to create as well
as evaluate initiatives of development. The VP also has to create metrics to know how effective
the initiatives have been and defend or oppose having employees that are not experts training
others.
Training and Development Initiatives
The major area which supports the growth plans of McCormick & Company is the MMB
(Multiple Management Board) leadership program. The aim of this learning program is ensuring
that talent development aligns with the goals of the organization. McCormick & Company
possess key strategies including growth of sales, innovativeness, management of their cost bases
as well as succession. The training and development initiatives have to correspond to the four
strategies. Initiatives of training and development that are strategic are actions based on learning
which a firm takes so as to accomplish its business strategies (Noe, 2017). It is the initiatives of
strategic training and development which will offer the company a road map that will guide
particular activities of training and development. This for instances can be achieved by sending
newly promoted and hired employees to sales training classes conducted internally and also
having mentor programs, webinars, and web-based classes. Such classless can be useful to the
sales force as it will provide them with knowledge of the products sold by the company and
