Patient has a blood sugar of 34 and is unresponsive. Glucagon is needed to raise blood sugar. Is this given IM or SQ? -IM Name a few signs and symptoms of a thyroid storm? -Fever, nervousness, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, seizures, goiter, thyroiditis, exopthalamos, weakness (muscle wasting), restlessness with emotional swings, confusion, hepatomegaly with jaundice, tachycardia, A Fib, shock and coma. What should you teach a patient taking steroids? -Watch for fever as it can be life threatening & wash hands frequently If a patient is taking steroids, which vital signs should you be most concerned about: BP 160/90, R 24, P 102, T 99.6, O2 97%? -Temp of 99.6 as this can be life threatening for a patient on steroids What are some signs and symptoms of Hypoglycemia? -Diaphoresis, sweating, clammy, tremors, pallor, agitation, confusion If you abruptly stop a corticosteroid, what can happen?
