BUSINESS RESEARCH
Assignment 1
1. What is the difference between Mode 1 and Mode 2 knowledge and why does it matter in
business research?
The difference between Mode 1 and Mode 2 knowledge is that in Mode 1, problems are
set and solved in a context governed by the interests of specific academic communities. In Mode
2 knowledge, production is carried out in a context of application. Mode 1 and 2 knowledge
matters in a business research because this assists the researchers and/or business persons to
determine or conclude the right and better decision/s for the business to avoid (or lessen) such
conflicts, risks, or failure and improve their existing business operations.
2. What do you think will be the most difficult part of identifying research chapters for
study and why?
I think the most difficult part of identifying research chapters for study is the stage of
finding and formulating a good research title to be discuss and precise statement of the problem
to be solve. This is the most difficult part for me because the researcher/s needs to excellently
portray the topic in a way that it becomes ready for scientific investigation. Just like the research
title, research problems should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and
Time-based). Some researchers fail to connect their research problems to their title leading their
research unorganized and difficult to understand, and consequently fail them. On the other story,
researchers having a not-so-clear title and were already conducting a research usually leads their
whole research to go to waste in the end. These are according to what I’ve observed and
experienced. These events happen basically because researchers do not know what exactly they
should do, explore, find, or study and their “researchable” problems are not even researchable
and connected with title itself. Thus it is important for researchers to be excellent at the first
stage of doing a research.
3. Do you prefer the idea of conducting quantitative or qualitative research? Is this just
about statistics versus interview research methods? Check what each of these means in
terms of what you believe is the nature of knowledge and what you believe about business
organizations.
I prefer conducting a Quantitative Research since I have done this type of research when
I was in senior high school. For me its way more easy to do than how a qualitative research is
done.
Quantitative and Qualitative Research is not just about statistics versus interview research
methods. Quantitative Research focuses on numbers and unchanging data and detailed,
convergent reasoning rather than divergent reasoning. You can characterize a qualitative
