Project Management Information System- Database Design
Executive Summary
Project management information system entails software applications that enable easy access and
retrieval of information needed for the execution of projects. Various databases have different
designs process aimed at meeting specific demands.
Databases and Design Processes
Starting with, the ticketing system mainly receives requests and enables communication between
the ticket sender and the issue resolver. To achieve this, the object-oriented data model is used
to design the database. Besides, Inventory management database keeps and secure inventory
records. Since the database captures complex data, it would be advisable to use ERD model to
explain the conceptual schema of the database.
The personal media library is easier to design since it only supports a single user who
will also act as the administrator of that database. Hierarchical model can be used to design the
database that provides authentication features for a single user hence system simplicity. Project
management Information system organizes data that is required to execute projects within
cooperation. The database can be therefore designed using a Relational model to explain both
logical and physical view of the database.
On the other hand, a conference management system should be able to register and
validate new members, send invoices to members, and also mark attendances, therefore, the
database should be designed to meet the needs of a particular conference using an entity-
relationship model to avoid data inconsistency. Lastly, the student association member database
is supposed to capture the details of each member in an organization, hence; hierarchical may
best fit the database design.
Data to be Managed
The data to be managed by the proposed databases are both simple and complex depending on
the nature of information handled in by the databases. As mentioned, simple data would require
data models that capture a few data packages compared to complex data. The data managed have
benefits such as conceptual simplicity, data integrity, and data security.
Team Structure
The team composition will comprise four members where each member will handle different
areas depending on their skills and interests.
