Week 1 Journal: Week 1 we learned about why we should learn the humanities and why it is important
to learn it. Everybody ought to find out about humanities in light of the fact that we are clearly all
people, so is there any good reason why we wouldn't have any desire to know more about ourselves, our
past, and foresee our future. The quality or finding out about humanities even in a business or
specialized field is knowing how to address and ponder things outside of simply the consistent ordinary
employments we have. Regardless of what field we are in whether is medicinal services, business,
science, innovation, and so on, the way that we are people and we will interface with people is
continually going to be the same. By and by, I don't think I am quite a bit of an inventive individual and
my field doesn't include much workmanship, however it interests me to think about people, our history,
and how our past has formed the way we are currently.
Week 3 Journal: During week 3 we learned about Shakespeare, and how is plays changed the
humanities. We also learned about allegory and art. We talked about how we suspend disbelief when we
see a play in person. For me the most ideal approach to encounter the plays is watching it being
performed live in light of the fact that a few individuals, similar to me, comprehends and feels a greater
amount of the play than simply understanding it to yourself. The words and acting will give you an all the
more comprehension of what the sure scenes are about and give you that feeling towards it. I mean a
few individuals like to peruse the book as opposed to viewing the motion picture in light of the fact that
in once in a while or perhaps all the time then motion pictures transform it up a bit from the book
however here it is only a play so I don't think changing the words would happen. We also discussed how
art has many different for each individual who sees it differently.
Week 5 Discussion:
Photography and Art; Reply to Professor DuFresne: I think video games are considered art
because video game developers put their own minds and ideas into the characters, the story, the plot
and the scenery. It is a completely different type of art but to me it is still considered art because it is
someone’s original work. Art isn’t just drawn or painted, it has many forms and I believe that video
games are art. People are creative enough to incorporate many different styles and make it look so
realistic. It takes a lot of time and dedication into making a game so it is definitely art in my books.
Realism and Impressionism; Reply to Professor DuFresne: “The 19th century was a complex
period. Until about 1850 the main struggle was between the conflicting aims of Classicism and
Romanticism; afterwards these were replaced, almost brutally, by various forms of Realism. Classical
artists used the past as their model, Romantic artists tried to escape through the imagination. The Realist
artists who followed aimed to express the 'real' as it existed, to present the 'here and now' without any
reference to the past. They regarded it as a token of the future promised by a new divinity - progress.
This meant a complete break with the ancient classical tradition, and also a rejection of the Romantic's
escape into personal dream worlds. The Realist artist grappled with the problems of creating a new order
based on the direct observation of what was around him”
This website really gives a good description of the struggles people faced during the transition from
impressionism to realism. The impressionist artist art had to be brutally replaced by realism art. They ha
to completely change their perspective and recreate their ideas using realism.
