Moderator/Sarah: Assalamualaikum and good morning, welcome to our forum discussion
organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam.
The reason we are gather here today is to discuss more deeply about
the current issue which is about “Gender Inequality in a
Workplace”
But before we start, I would like to introduce our special panel today.
On my right, Dr. Liyana from Department Statistics Malaysia, next to
her is Miss Ainun who is Executive in Ministry of Human Resources,
followed by Professor Athirah who is Senior consultant in Malaysian
Employer Federation (MEF) and our last panel is, Miss Shafiqah who
is Executive in Ministry of Women, Family and Community
Development.
Gender inequality acknowledges that men and women are not equal
and that gender itself affects an individual’s lived experience and the
most common that happened in Malaysia usually happen in a
workplace. So, let’s talk more about the differences pay gap salaries.
Based on my findings, according to the Department of Statistics’
Salaries and Wages survey report 2016, it is not something unusual to
find that men are getting paid higher than women because even their
mean salary between men and women have a huge difference. So, Dr.
Liyana, what do you think about this issue right now?
Liyana :
Moderator/Sarah: What is the reason this gender pay gap can happen in Malaysia? Is it
because women are not skillful or not fulfil the requirement to get
equivalent salary as men?
