1) Another moment in act 2 scene 3 shows the relationship between mother and son. The
moment shows that the relationship between mother and son is worse. In act 2 scene 3, "What
is more important than my relationship with my grandfather?" Shows that Son is questioning his
mother about his relationship with grandfather rather than following her instructions. At first, son
was accepting whatever mother told him and he tried to follow mother's rules and instructions.
But now, son realized that he should do the right thing, which is to care for grandfather and stop
following his mother's instructions. Son now wants mother to understand that son's relationship
with grandfather is much more important than his education. However, mother insist with son
that Son should only focus on his studies and nothing else. This shows how conflicted mother
and son is. Hence the audience feel that the relationship between mother and son is getting
worse but the audience are still happy that son is finally ready to care for grandfather.

is forcing son to follow her instructions although son is not interested in doing so. In act 1 scene
1,"Listen to me, follow my instructions..." Shows that mother wants son to do whatever she
says. Mother did not consider sons' opinions. Mother is doing everything according to what she
thinks is right. She wants to have control of the situation. Mother is also insensitive as she wants
to do everything but does not consider how she makes others feel. Mother wants Son to follow
her instructions. However, she does not care how son might feel. Hence, the audience will feel
angry towards mother because mother is not showing concern for son's feelings. Mother only
does the things that she thinks are right. This also makes the audience feel that mother is
inconsiderate over son's feelings.

unwilling to take care of grandfather. Mother asked so little of him, just to be around, but he is
selfish so he does not care about grandfather. Son feels that he is not the one who is supposed
to take care of grandfather. Son wants others to take care of grandfather instead. Hence, the
audience will feel that son is not caring or not interested to care for grandfather and the
relationship between them is worse. Moreover, son thinks that grandfather is a burden of the
family rather than a person who should receive care and concern.
