THE ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN
What is an organization?
It's composed of people that have a defined, oriented (your role is well defined and
coordinated behaviour towards a purpose.
The goals are:
• Effectiveness (reach the goals) and efficiency (= doing things in the right way) -
skills
• Satisfaction of the company (so the people in it)
Organizational design is about
• Dividing labour among units, tasks… to obtain specialized units
• Coordinating the units in order to exchange information ---> a company is com
• Ensuring cooperation aligning goals and controlling their pursuit
The trade off, the key is to balance the division of labour and the coordination. How
Thanks to:
• Structure: configuration of the corporate bodies, set of tasks and responsibiliti
them
• Systems: the set of rules, the procedures
• Culture: set of values, that guide behaviours --> it might result in a great comp
and also employees might be willing to make sacrifices. But it can also create c
the identity and morals of the company and the single person. It can also gene
betweeen different companies in different countries.
THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Ex. Brambilla case:
• Company that produces furniture in wood for 20 years
• Introduced a plastic line of furnitures in plastic
• 120 employees, 30ML of turnover
• Launch of the new line:
○ Different raw material
○ Production processes are different
○ Costumers/ distribution channels are common
○ Design is different
○ Turnover 2.8mln (revenues)
