Application of Learning Theories
This essay will describe perspectives on learning theories, and identify a theory that I
may closely relate too. I will summarize the components of the theory, applications of the
theory as it relates to my worksite, give examples of how I would teach student’s with special
learning needs within the context of that theory, and give an analysis of how technology plays a
role within the theory and my experiences.
According the Lever-Duffy and McDonald, (2008, p. 15); perspectives on learning
theories are attempts to explain how a person learns; and depending on one’s perspectives on
how and why people do what they do. Summarizing the components of the theories, each
explanation focuses on different attributes, conditions, and outcomes. Sometimes there are
contradictions with each; and other times a person can grasp how to best learn and become
familiar with learning theories that would be useful in teaching situations. I believe that there
may be several ways to focus on components of learning perspectives, such as applications of
theories to a worksite or classroom, for example, communicating, environmental factors,
behaviors perspectives, cognitivist perspectives, and constructivist perspectives. Each has its
own unique style of applications and uses of technologies. Communication requires accuracy
when communicating so that feedback factors include all the variables, such as psychological
factors, and personal filers. Environmental factors may interfere with communicating and the
course of action includes environmental circumstances that may cause misrepresentation of
messages or the obstruction.
Each has its own unique style of applications and uses of technologies. For
example, “Direct and Explicit Instruction – ensure that students are explained and given clear
directions for tasks, along with clear explanations of what they are expected to learn from a
