Community health nursing diagnosis: obesity
In Kenya, various studies shows that approximately 60% of people living in urban
areas and 20% of people living in rural areas are overweight. Obesity and overweight causes
chronic heart diseases and death worldwide. Women are the most expose to obesity. Increase
in high-calorie consumption leads to overweight.
B1. Health Concerns Linked to Target Population
My field experience in women obesity target and prevention was completed in
Nairobi town. The town is the capital city of Kenya. The median age of citizens is 35 years
old and 20% of the population are under 25years old. Nairobi has the highest women obesity
rate in the whole country. Body Mass index is a calculation of a person’s weight, height and
age. The number obtained is then aligned with a chart. women who fall between 85th and 94th
percentile are considered obese. Obesity is considered to cause various health problem;
respiratory problems, cardiovascular disease, cancers and diabetes.
c. Health Community and Primary Prevention Resources
During my first test I found various quality programs and resources to be considered
for a healthy and obesity-free lifestyle. The programs include weekly workout, nutrition
classes, hiking, bike riding and even fitness in the park.
b. Underlying Causes
The leading cause is overeating and minimal physical activity. Each person is expected to
work out at least one hour a day despite the busy schedule.
