Delete text
When you want to remove text such as a character, word, sentence, or paragraph, you can
delete it.
Select the words "streamlining and" from the first body paragraph.
Press the DELETE key.
The selected text is deleted from the document.

Copy and Paste
if you want to duplicate text, you can copy and paste it instead of retyping the text.
Select the text "Technology connects" in the first body paragraph.
In the Clipboard group on the Home tab, click the Copy button.
The selected text is stored on the Office Clipboard.
Click the blank paragraph at the end of the document.
The insertion point (a vertical line) blinks in the new location.
In the Clipboard group, click the Paste button.
Word inserts the text from the Office Clipboard to the document at the location of the
insertion point.

Move text
Move text, including characters, words, sentences, and paragraphs, when you want the text
to appear in a different place in the document.
Click in the margin to the left of the "Chicago, IL 60601" paragraph.
The entire paragraph is selected.
Press CTRL+X.
Word removes the text from the document and stores it on the Clipboard.
Click the blank line after the street address.
Press CTRL+V.
The paragraph now appears in its proper location.

Show formatting marks
Show formatting marks to reveal nonprinting characters such as paragraph marks and
spaces. Hide formatting marks if these characters are a distraction.
In the Paragraph group on the Home tab, click the Show/Hide ¶ button.
Formatting marks appear in the document. Paragraph formatting marks show the end of
each paragraph, and raised dots show spaces.
Click the Show/Hide ¶ button again.
The formatting marks are now hidden.

Show rulers
Display the horizontal and vertical rulers to help you position content and set tabs, indents,
and margins.
Click the View tab on the ribbon.
In the Show group, click the Ruler check box to show the rulers.
The horizontal ruler appears at the top of the document window below the ribbon, and the
vertical ruler appears on the left side of the document window.

Show gridlines
Show gridlines in the background of a document when you want help placing or aligning
objects, such as shapes and pictures.
Click the View tab on the ribbon.
In the Show group, click the Gridlines check box to display the gridlines.
Horizontal and vertical gridlines appear within the page margins.

Change the case

, Instead of retyping text to change its case, you can use the Change Case feature to apply a
case to selected text.
Select the words "rockland consulting" in the first body paragraph.
In the Font group, click the Change Case button.
Click Capitalize Each Word in the Change Case list.
Word changes the case of the selected text so that each word begins with a capital letter.

Enter text
Enter text in a document by typing on the keyboard.
Type Project Plan at the insertion point.
The entered text appears, the insertion point moves to the right, and the existing text wraps
to the next line.
Press ENTER.
The insertion point and the text following the insertion point move to the next line, and extra
space is added below the new paragraph.

Undo, redo an action
To reverse the last change you made in a Word document, you can undo the action. If you
undo an action and then want to restore the original change, you can redo the action.
On the Quick Access Toolbar, click the Undo button.
Word reverses the last action by removing the bold from the text.
On the Quick Access Toolbar, click the Redo button.
Word restores the action by bolding the text again.

Set a gutter margin
Set a gutter margin if you are going to have your document bound, so the binding does not
obscure the document contents on the left or top margin.
Click the Layout tab on the ribbon.
In the Page Setup group, click the Margins button.
Click Custom Margins.
The Page Setup dialog box opens with the Margins tab on top.
Select the existing number in the Gutter box, and type 0.5 in the box.
The value "0.5" replaces the existing value in the text box. You will accept the default Gutter
position of "Left."
Click OK.
The Page Setup dialog box closes, and the margins in the document shift to add a 0.5"
gutter margin on the left of each page.

Vertical alignment
Use vertical alignment options to place document content neatly and precisely on the page;
this feature is especially useful for centering titles on cover pages.
Click the Layout tab.
In the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher.
The Page Setup dialog box opens.
In the Page Setup dialog box, click the Layout tab.
On the Layout tab, in the Page area, click the Vertical alignment arrow.
The Vertical alignment list appears.
On the Vertical alignment list, click Center.
Click OK.
The dialog box closes, and the content on the title page is now positioned in the center of
the page.
