Health Education
Is this still a relevant subject to be included in
the school curriculum?
According to an Oxford dictionary, health education is basically education that promotes an
understanding of how to maintain personal health. Within this area it can be mental health,
environmental health, physical health, mental health, etc. In this case, health education should
be considered as a relevant subject because it supports attitudes, beliefs, and practice skills that
are necessary for learners to adopt and sustain healthy habits throughout their life. It also helps
in the acquisition of practical health knowledge. The inclusion of health education in a
curriculum is beneficial to students as the specific content and skill addressed includes sexual
health and other related topic areas such as, prevention, mental and emotional health, food
and nutrition. ( CBC:2021)
