congestive heart failure. Heart & Lung, 46(5), 357-362. doi:10.1016/j.hrtlng.2017.06.005
Variable and key concepts • List the important points of the article, variables, framework, and concepts mentioned.
The goal of this study was to identify the risk factors that patients with congestive heart
failure (CHF) have for readmission. Medicare patients in the United States congestive
heart failure has one of the most frequent readmission rates. There are over 700,000
hospitalizations for congestive heart failure each year, and 25% percent of those
admissions are readmitted within 30 days, and a third are readmitted within 90-days.
Readmissions are caused by complications or exacerbations. Prediction tools have
attempted to reduce readmission rates, through the Readmission Reduction Program
(Mirkin, Enomoto, Caputo, & Hollenbeak, 2017).
The variables were patients had been admitted for congestive heart failure and out of
those patients the ones who were readmitted with in 30 days for any diagnosis. They also
looked at covariant demographics, insurance type, how they were admitted, discharge
status, comorbidities(Mirkin et al., 2017).
The framework consisted of demographics, insurance type, how they were admitted,
discharge status, comorbidities.
The concepts explored were hospital readmissions in congestive heart failure
patients within 30day after discharged, and risks that affect readmission.
, • Was the hypothesis stated or implied?
The hypothesis was not formulated or implied, the study was to identify risk factor from a
set a discharge data over a year to find if there was a correlation.
• What was the research question? Was it clearly stated?
