Four generations of human rights

It is believed that the division of human rights into generations was initially proposed
in 1979 by the Czech jurist Karel Vasak at the International Institute of Human Rights
in Strasbourg, (Slater 2016:79). The four generations are: First Generation of Human
Rights: Civil and Political Rights, Second Generation of Human Rights: Economic,
Social and Cultural Rights, Third Generation of Human Rights: Solidarity Rights, and
Fourth Generation of Human Rights: Ecological Rights (not clearly established yet)
