Module 2
DQ 1
Why is goal setting so critical to personal and professional success? What makes a goal more
likely to be accomplished? Be sure to integrate expert sources from the assigned readings or
from your own research.
Goals can have different meanings and importance in an individual’s life; we all set goals
constantly and sometimes without even realizing it because we do it automatically. Since some
individuals go through life without consciously setting goals, they do not realize the
opportunities that life has to offer. Setting goals motivate an individual to achieve what they
want. When setting goals in our life creates more meaning, purpose, and passion (Wilson, 2018).
An individual who does not consciously chose goals will tend to become dissatisfied and feel
they are wasting time. Well chosen goals mean an individual will spend time doing things that
align with their values, a point, and a purpose (Wilson, 2018). When setting goals, they will
result in a positive impact on the quality of an individual’s time choices as well as create fear or
anxiety, create challenges and meaning. Goals have a tendency to take individuals out of their
comfort zone, however, the truth is it creates growth. Growth is a process and it may be difficult,
painful, but yet through this comes valuable truths an individual learns about themselves
(Wilson, 2018). After reaching life goals, an individual can reflect on the past, look forward to
the future, but, live in the present s this will give an individual something to look forward to in
life. Overall an individual assumes responsibility of their own direction in life and this means
setting goals but make them realistic and achievable. It does not matter whether the goal is to get
something good or leave something bad, an individual is not trapped they just need to give
themselves permission to choose. Life makes a habit of habits, it is too easy to do the same
things day in, day out without ever really changing, therefore, goals are still set to inject
creativity, promote growth, and ultimately help fulfil an individuals potential (Wilson, 2018).
