PYS 693 Topic 2 DQ 2
Refer to the Smart Goal resources. List one short- and long-term professional
and career goal (4 total), along with practical sub steps to achieve them. Be
sure to include dates. What might be some potential challenges for each?
How can you prevent some of these foreseeable hurdles?

Professional Goals

Short-term: Complete Master’s program in general psychology at Grand
Canyon University in May 2019.

Long-term: Continue to study for my LPC and pass the state exam.

Career Goals
Short Term: Starting my own business, working with individuals with
developmental disabilities. I had a possible start date of March, however
things had to be pushed back therefore I am looking to be up and going no
later than July 2019.

Long-term: Getting more involved with communities being a big advocate
and creating programs for the population I serve. Being an active member in
the community.

However we all know that life throws obstacles in our way at times when
trying to archive our goals, but we have to find ways to move around and still
strive for our goals. Anything dealing with the community and giving back
and become active you must have community members who are willing to
support you and believe in your movement.

In order to even create goals, you must define them first. Setting goals is
important, but some goals are more likely to help us than others. It’s not just
that goal setting is important, the kind of goals we decide to set are
important and how we go about pursuing them. When faced with obstacles,
goals help us make choices. Goals help you achieve your own personal
success. Real success is knowing that no matter what happens tomorrow,
you are still giving your best today. When goals are easy or vague, it is not
hard to get commitment, because it does not require much dedication to

,reach easy goals, and vague goals can be easily redefined to accommodate
low performance. When goals are specific and hard, the higher the
commitment the better the performance ( Locke, 1996). The only choice you
have to make is how you handle your inability to control every situation. You
are exposed and that is where fear and doubt come in. Goals applied
properly help you overcome those negative feelings and allow you to
succeed.

Self-reflection has helped me to understand more about the way that I
respond to situations, to not be completely oblivious to my faults, and to find
ways that I can deal with situations positively instead of letting them
consume me. Every day I reflect on how to become a better person and how
to make more money.

Reflection is a very important aspect of the learning process that has been
emphasized by many experts as a defining characteristic of professional
practice. Take some time and reflect on your master's education. Practically
speaking, what were the most valuable aspect of your journey thus far
(assignments, projects, activities, etc.)? What have been the biggest
challenges? Finally, speculate how this degree will enhance your future and
align with your passions.

The most valuable aspect of my journey overall was starting this journey all
over again for the second time. With having to complete eight more classes
to have a second master’s degree was very exciting for me. However once I
begin I quickly had regrets of getting back enrolled in school. The biggest
challenge for me was to remain focus and complete the program. I has been
many times I felt like giving up, after dealing with my own personal health
issues I still managed to get to this point of completion, and I know all of this
would not be possible without the man above. What have been the biggest
challenges? Staying focus through this process, although life placed
obstacles in my way I still manage to go around them and focus on reaching

, the finish line. Having a second masters will help enhance my knowledge and
skills to become a better counselor to the individuals I serve.

It is important to view intelligence within a given context. Why? What are
some aspects of social or mental context or physical environment that you
consider important to the expression of intelligence?

Although intelligence is viewed as of various kinds, the mental processes
involved in creative, analytical, practical, and wise thinking are the same.
Social context, also called social environment, refers to the settings
surrounding individuals, including the culture they live in and groups that
they interact with. Social context influences customs, traditions and other
socially acceptable standards.

Intrapersonal Intelligence is something we easily notice in others all the time
— in fact, the stereotype of the quiet and studious person is related to higher
levels of this intelligence. That said, everybody and anybody can develop
vast Intrapersonal Intelligence, and having it will benefit your academics in
unexpected ways. In many subjects and in many careers, there will be times
when you have to be alone to do challenging tasks that require deep focus.
The more Intrapersonal Intelligence you build, the easier these tasks will be
— and the more you can learn about what is most effective for you. That
means giving yourself the power to change your environment so that you
reach your personal potential. Looking for a structured academic
improvement program to help you will make the process of building
intrapersonal intelligence faster and easier.

Select two theories of human intelligence. Describe each theory comparing
the similarities of the theories, including how the two theories are different.
Which one do you feel explains intelligence more thoroughly or accurately,
and why?
