M2 - Assess the importance of employability and personal skills in the
recruitment and retention of staff in a selected organisation.
The organisation I have chosen to assess is Tesco. I have chosen Tesco as
it is one of the largest and most well known organisation in the UK and
needs to keep on top of recruitment for the company to work efficiently.
There are many different aspects to consider for Tesco when recruiting
new employees and keeping existing staff such as training, meeting
targets, having the correct skills which match the job requirements, trust,
qualifications, portraying a professional image and have excellent
communication skills to liaise with fellow colleagues and the public.
It is important for Tesco to consider employability skills and personal skills
when recruiting and retaining staff as having a good balance of these
skills in employees will help the organisation run smoothly and effectively.
It is also important for Tesco to analyse each of their employees’ and
candidates’ employability and personal skills because if two candidates
apply for a role within Tesco and they both have the same qualifications
but one of the candidates has much more experience within the industry
then the employer should hire the one with more experience because
there is less chance of the candidate making errors and they will know
what they are doing.
There is a chance that candidates will state false information on their CV
such as previous employment and qualifications. In order to avoid these
candidates, I think Tesco should do a reference check on their candidates
to make sure that the information on their CV is actually true and ask
candidates to bring their achievement certificates as proof of earned
qualifications so then Tesco can distinguish potential loyal candidates from
candidates that want to be hired for the wrong reasons.
So Tesco would be better off if they employed someone with less
experience and less qualifications rather than someone who states they
have a high level of experience and all the advanced qualifications just to
get the job but actually have none of them.
Tesco wouldn’t want to hire someone who falsifies their details because it
could lead to and aid the organisation into losing profit and doing badly in
the economy. As we are in a recession, that would be a major loss for any
organisation. That is why honesty from candidates is important and that it
is important for Tesco to do their research on each candidate to avoid
someone who they think may not work to the best of their abilities when
they are in the working environment.
