Instruction: Completely answer the following questions. Place your answers on this
template.

Questions:
1. Identify five (5) issues in the Philippines. What science and technology-related
policies could be developed and implemented to solve these issues? Sufficiently
explain your suggested programmes and/or projects that could address these issues.
2. What can you say about the implementation of some science and technology policies
and projects in the country? Expound on five (5) of them.
Answers:
Five (5) issues in the Philippines in my own opinion are the following:
 Growing population
In this problem, contraceptives must be accessible. Couples should be given
wider access to contraceptives to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Today, The
Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012, also known as
the Reproductive Health Law or RH Law provides universal access to methods of
contraception, fertility control, sexual education, and maternal care.
 Global Warming
Renewable energy can prevent the worst effects of rising temperatures. This is
because renewable energy sources such as solar and wind do not emit greenhouse
gases which contributes to global warming. Philippines have the potential for usage of
renewable energy for it is abundant in natural resources. Harnessing our resources for
biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind production will reduce our reliance on
coal, petroleum and other non-renewable resources.
 Food scarcity
To avoid food scarcity, land and water resources should be managed wisely.
Effectively promote diversification in agricultural production to ensure food security and
promote better nutrition. Investment of local production of agricultural inputs such as
machinery needs to be prioritized and done.
 Garbage Disposal

As for the problem in garbage disposal, garbage should be liquefied and
gasification facilities should be constructed to convert our wastes to a usable source of
energy. Recyclable materials should be placed in recycling facilities to avoid being stuck
in drainages.
