3. Briefly describe the history and objectives of the organisation (not more
than 1 typed page).
Tree House academy is a private kindergarten and after school program for children
6 months to 12 years old.The school aims to provide a safe base from which
students can learn about and explore the world around them. The school opened up
in the early 2000’s with just a handful of classes and now hosts 11 kindergarten
classes, 12 after school classes, an independent STEAM program and Black Sheep
which is an independent schooling program. The school also runs remedial classes
which is where I will be volunteering.
Tree House Academy started in the early 2000’s as a means to fill a gap and provide
a space for children to learn in English on a native level and to bring to the forefront
the benefits of learning as a collaboration between the school and the families who
are a part of the school.
The objectives of the organisation are to provide a well rounded education for
children from infancy to 12 years old. The school has a large family focus and has a
high level of parental involvement. The philosophy is to challenge children, to help
them to grow in multiple ways. To give them space to grow both creatively and
academically. There is a large focus on providing a very wide range of activities and
experiences so as to provide students with a better understanding of the world
around them. The values of reading and working together as a family are
emphasized and encouraged very early on.
The school also runs remedial classes for students who may be struggling or may be
behind in their lessons. This is where I will be volunteering, I am currently a teacher
at this school.
