Why the human resource function should be aligned with an organization’s strategic
plan
When the human resource function is aligned with an organizations strategic plan,
the organizations business operations are holistically increased. When an organization is
aligned from top to bottom, the organization will perform at a higher level, which leads to
better development, productivity and growth within the company. These three factors can
usually be traced back to an optimized human resource management team, which recruits,
hires and trains. However, before they can accomplish these tasks, the human resource
management team must align themselves with the organizations mission, vision and goals.
In turn, this will allow the management team to focus and be able to competently recruit,
hire and train employees in order to identify, address, and problem solve critical issues
appropriately and in the long run, help increase the business operations of the organization
in alignment with its strategic plan.
How current global conditions impact human resource management practices within
A.P. Møller – Maersk Group
The current global conditions in Maersk’s (Organization) industry altered the
human resource management practice and approach by forcing them to revaluate their
organizational values and make a change within their work force. Pre – 2003, Maersk’s
employee base was described as a “familial culture” (Groysberg & Abbott, 2013) in part
due to their world-renowned two-year training and placement program and their low
employee turnover rate. However, as the Organization transitioned from family-owned
into a global competitor, changes were made throughout from leadership and management
down to the low level employees. By 2008, the Organization began to realize that they
needed better leadership and management, in order to make the tough decisions when
necessary, and thus revamped their human resource function from administrative to
