Stages of Life Essay and Interview
A person has five major stages that s/he undergoes in the entire life time. These stages are
infancy, childhood, youthful age, adult and finally old age. All these stages are comprised of
people of different ages. The interaction of the patient with the health professional differs and its
efficiency is also determined by the age or the stage of life of the patient (McCaffrey et al.,
2018). The purpose of this paper is to identify the major stages of life, examine the influence of a
specific age or stage of life in the patient-clinician interaction and finally the role of the family in
enhancing patient-clinician interaction and recovery.
For successful completion of this assignment, I interviewed an 86 years old woman
named Rebecca who is in her old age. Rebecca happens to be one of my friends and neighbor as
well. She has been suffering from cervical cancer for three years now. According to Rebecca, her
stage of life influenced positively her interaction with her personal doctor. People who are in
their old age find it easy to interact and discuss with the health professionals on any sexual
matters unlike people in youthful and childhood stages of life (Lai et al., 2018). Therefore,
Rebecca expressed her problems comfortably to the doctor. The doctor was able to know what
exactly should be the best solution and medication of her.
Rebecca stated that the health care environment in the hospital she was admitted in was
very friendly and welcoming. The beds and the entire hospital facilities were very clean. The
nurses were very responsible and they made sure that every patient took the right drugs
prescription at the required time. They were very responsive to patients’ personal needs and
requested. The doctor who attended Rebecca was very friendly and attentive to her concerns. He
(doctor) embraces the importance of involving patients in decision making since he took time to
discuss with Rebecca on what type of medication was best to improve her health. However,
