Structure of atom
Discovery:- Atom was discovered by John Dalton.
Definition:-
The smallest particle of matter which takes part in chemical reaction is called atom.
It is the basic unit of a chemical element. The structure of atom refers to how the sub-atomic
particles are arranged. Atoms are so small that can only be visualized with a scanning
tunneling microscope.
Nucleus
Discovery:- The nucleus was discovered by Rutherford in 1911 during alpha scattering
experiment.
Atomic nucleus:-
The centre of every atom is called nucleus. The entire positive charge of the atom is
concentrated inside nucleus.
Size of nucleus:-
The tininess of the nucleus can be imagined by comparing that the radius of the atom is 105
times the radius of the nucleus.
Composition of nucleus:-
The nucleus consists of nucleons which comprise of protons and neutrons.
The force that holds the nucleons together inside a nucleus is called nuclear force.
