Question 1
Just like other different diseases, asthma has specific pathogenesis, which explains how
the illness develops and the stages related to the progression of asthma. Moreover, the
pathogenesis of asthma can be used to gauge the effects of the disease in both adults and
children. The main cause of asthma is that it forms from the narrowing of the airways, which in
turn significantly influences the airflow to the lungs. In this context, bronchoconstriction, which
is a bronchial smooth muscle contraction, narrows the airways in response to different stimuli
such as irritants. Furthermore, as the illness progresses, the narrowing of the airways keeps
advancing due to other factors such as edema and inflammation, which makes it harder for the
patient to respond to the basic treatment methods (Russell & Brightling, 2017). Moreover, as a
response to a wide array of stimuli, there is the formation of a bronchoconstrictor, which is
airway hyperresponsiveness. However, even though there are different mechanisms influencing
airway hyperresponsiveness, the treatment that reduces the inflammation helps a lot in reducing
airway hyperresponsiveness (Peebles & Aronica, 2019). Even though airways limitation might
be reversible in some cases, the illness can advance to the point that there is a complete airway
remodeling that makes it hard for all types of therapy useful in treating asthma. The airway
remodeling revolves around the activation of many different structural cells that narrow the
airway, therefore, making it hard for airflow.
This pathogenesis is evident in the case of Poppy in regard to the result from the
diagnosis she had upon being admitted at the hospital. Judging by the symptoms shown by the
diagnosis and the information from her parents, it can be said that Poppy was diagnosed with
asthma at the age of two years. However, it does not seem like she had the proper treatment to
reduce the symptoms she had previously shown in regards to the illness at a young age. One can
