Presenting fair monetary payments for salaries is great for business. If the company pays
too little then one-day people will look for a better salary proposal. If a company over
compensate employees then the budget for payroll and the strategic outlook for profits will
undergo hardship. Companies need to be competitive in the job market to keep potential top
talent within the organization. Global company, Maersk Group, offers discretionary benefits to
build relationship to retain the current and future employees. Workers that appreciate great
benefit packages, will be delighted work for the organization. The Maersk Group pride itself in
being a family owned company that took care of its employees (Groysberg & Abbott, 2013). As
a global employer, Maersk offered discretionary benefits tailored to the countries that has
operations to recruit more employees to that market. Since Maersk can offer great benefit
packages then salary surveys are crucial to attract the right employee for the right position
(Groysberg & Abbott, 2013).
On the Maersk website, the organization displays the benefits hoping to appeal to
potential candidates to apply with the company (Maersk Line Limited, 2017). The company
states on their website, “dedicated to attracting, developing and retaining the industry’s best
talents. As proof of this commitment, Maersk Line Limited offers a flexible benefits program
designed to enable each employee to tailor a benefits package to his or her needs” (Maersk Line
Limited, 2017). Maersk offers choices, because the company cannot predict what benefits will
be attractive to their future employees.
Since most companies offer these benefits to stay competitive, Human Resources then
has the duty to utilize salary surveys as a compensation and benefits benchmarking tool. Salary
surveys is collected information or data about employee’s wages and benefits paid by employers
