GIFTED
The movie was so amazing and inspirational at the same time. I’d never knew that there
is a movie like this who gives hope, uncle’s love and sacrifice. Mary is a gifted child and not
everyone has that but in her case, she does not know how to make peers and interact with
other people especially in school. Mary was born without her parents and it is sad because she
wasn’t able to see nor touch them since her mother Dianne killed herself due to pressure.
Frank was the one who raised and take cares of Mary ever since she was a baby and as the
time passes by, Frank knew that Mary is a math prodigy where in she loves reading math
books and study them that is why this part makes me feel jealous because she’s too good in
math while me, I sucks. Just like other kids, Frank sent Mary in a normal school because he
wanted Mary to be like them and follow her sister’s promise. In this part of the movie where
Mary’s teacher Bonnie found out that she is advanced in math, she immediately talk to the
president’s school to offer her the best school because of Mary’s potential. But Frank refused
the huge opportunity and I feel mad because how dare he says no to that offer where in fact,
Mary can improve her potential. I understand Frank’s reason but if that offer can change their
lives, they better grab it before it’s too late.
The flow of the movie is getting intense because of another character named Evelyn.
Mary’s maternal grandmother who is bossy and superior woman who wants her grandchild to
take advantage of her nature which is not good at Mary’s life. This situation gets worst where
Frank and Evelyn are in the court to get the child’s custody. Frank finds a way to win but her
mother Evelyn has a lot of plan to punish Frank so that he cannot get Mary. She used people
to immediately win the custody but Frank is smart that is why he does not want to give up on
easily to Mary because he wants to prove that he really loves her no matter what even though
they argued on simple things. Although Evelyn kept doing trapped for Frank, I feel sad for
Mary because she’s too young to be in this situation and a seven years old like her should
enjoy being a kid. Frank just wants to do what is best for Mary but her mother came that is
why it got complicated. Even their neighborhood Roberta told Frank to make decisions in the
first place so that Mary will continue to grow just like a normal kid. Evelyn won the custody
of Mary and I feel the same feelings of Frank like “losing someone you love is so painful to
accept.” and when Frank introduced Mary’s new family, my eyes wants to cry and I don’t
know if I should continue the saddest part of the movie because I really feel their emotions
especially Mary where Frank promised her that no matter what happen, they will stick
together through thick and thin but the promise was broken and there’s no way to get it back.
After that, Frank doesn’t know what to do and all he did was to blamed himself for
failing his sister’s will for her daughter. But the way Evelyn make another punishment, Frank
decided to reveal the truth that Dianne’s Naiver-Strokes has been finished and completed
before she died. I’ve realized that Frank’s reasons in the first place is for the good sake of
Mary because Dianne never experience being a lady who can freely do the things she wanted
when she was still alive that is why she told Frank to take care of her daughter and never let
her do the same thing what Dianne did. I was so happy that Frank finally get Mary’s back
despite all the obstacles they have been through. “Sometimes life knocks you down, but in
every day there’s still hope to that is filled with courage to make us strong again.” and I think
that’s the message of the movie.
