Reflect back over the past eight weeks and describe how the achievement of the course
outcomes in this course have prepared you to meet the MSN program outcome #, MSN
Essential VIII, and Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 1 Scientific Foundation
Competencies
Professor and class,
I will say that this has been a challenging yet enriching course. This course required vigilant time
management in order to stay ahead of the assigned readings and to complete all discussions and
quizzes on time.
Program Outcome #4: Evaluate the design, implementation, and outcomes of strategies
developed to meet healthcare needs (MSN Essentials III, IV, VIII).
Program Outcome #4 is centered on quality improvement and safety, the integration of
scholarship into practice, and promoting the health of populations through prevention (AACN,
2011). I feel that this course helped me to achieve Program Outcome #4 through the case studies
presented each week. Each case required a list of possible differentials to include
pathophysiology, etiology, and treatment options. Each case required critical thinking and the
use of current research in order to delineate a list of differentials. It was imperative to be able
to research properly in order to find the most up-to-date evidenced-based treatment options and
current etiology of the differentials. Quality improvement and safety were promoted through the
use of evidenced-based research offering current evidenced-based treatment options to
incorporate into daily practice. Using current research findings when discussing treatment
options and the presentation of diseases promoted the integration of scholarship into practice
through the search for evidenced-based research and practices. Finally, health promotion of
populations was achieved through case studies that included differentials that were specific to
certain populations and even certain age ranges helping students to take into account the
populations they will be serving and the diseases that may affect them.
MSN Essential VIII: Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving Health
•Recognizes that the master’s-prepared nurse applies and integrates broad, organizational, client-centered,
and culturally appropriate concepts in the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of evidence-based
clinical prevention and population care and services to individuals, families, and aggregates/identified
populations.
MSN Essential VIII is centered around the health of the population and the improvement of that
health through client-centered/individualistic care and health promotion/prevention (AACN,
2011). MSN Essential VIII was achieved through researching the case studies each week and
discussing the epidemiology of differentials and the recommended evidence-based treatment for
