Virgin can be plotted on the continuous/incremental quadrant on the entrepreneurial grid.
The company focuses on continuous improvements to their products and services,
building and improving products and services of quality rather than trying to inundate the
market with new ideas, which means innovation happens on a regular basis. The company
is not one large company but instead consists of 20 umbrella companies and some 270
semi-independent companies all under the Virgin brand, which all run their own affairs
separately.
Question 2
Virgin can grow through collaboration by:
• Simplifying its structures and procedures. Although Virgin has a pretty good grasp
of this it is always important to remind and emphasise it.
• Reduce the head office staff and continue to do so. (Virgin does seem to follow this

• Re-assign staff experts to consulting teams assisting field operations.
• Create a matrix structure
• Encourage experimentation in all facets of the business
• Emphasise innovation projects

Values – are the things that employees think are worth having or doing or are desirable.
Entrepreneurial values might include creativity, integrity, perseverance, individualism,
achievement, accountability, ownership, and change, among others. “Brands must be built
around reputation, quality and price..”; “better value for money, a better service,
challenging the status quo, and injecting an element of fun into what have traditionally
been dreary marketplaces.”; ” Staff training encourages empowerment and challenging of
existing rules and reinforces the brand culture.”; “The company encourages employees to
'go that extra mile' by schemes that reward this, such as Virgin Atlantic and Virgin
Holidays' Heroes, Virgin Mobile Shout Scheme, Virgin Money's Academy Awards and the
group-wide Star of the Year prize dinner.”
Methodology- The perception of how things get accomplished in the company, such as the
reliance on rational processes, politicking, or rule bending. For instance preparing a
business plan with certain key ingredients. ” 20 umbrella companies with some 270
