MNE3702 Assignment 2 Unique number: Question 1 Virgin can be plotted on the continuous/incremental quadrant on the entrepreneurial grid. The company focuses on continuous improvements to their products and services, building and improving products and services of quality rather than trying to inundate the market with new ideas, which means innovation happens on a regular basis. The company is not one large company but instead consists of 20 umbrella companies and some 270 semi-independent companies all under the Virgin brand, which all run their own affairs separately. Question 2 Virgin can grow through collaboration by: • Simplifying its structures and procedures. Although Virgin has a pretty good grasp of this it is always important to remind and emphasise it. • Reduce the head office staff and continue to do so. (Virgin does seem to follow this “does not appear to be a traditional head office structure”) • Re-assign staff experts to consulting teams assisting field operations. • Create a matrix structure • Encourage experimentation in all facets of the business • Emphasise innovation projects Question 3 Values – are the things that employees think are worth having or doing or are desirable. Entrepreneurial values might include creativity, integrity, perseverance, individualism, achievement, accountability, ownership, and change, among others. “Brands must be built around reputation, quality and price..”; “better value for money, a better service, challenging the status quo, and injecting an element of fun into what have traditionally been dreary marketplaces.”; ” Staff training encourages empowerment and challenging of existing rules and reinforces the brand culture.”; “The company encourages employees to 'go that extra mile' by schemes that reward this, such as Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays' Heroes, Virgin Mobile Shout Scheme, Virgin Money's Academy Awards and the group-wide Star of the Year prize dinner.” Methodology- The perception of how things get accomplished in the company, such as the reliance on rational processes, politicking, or rule bending.
