1.1 INTRODUCTION

The textile industry in India traditionally, after agriculture, is the only industry that
has generated huge employment for both skilled and unskilled labour in textiles. The
textile industry continues to be the second-largest employment generating sector in
India. It offers direct employment to over 35 million in the country. According to the
Ministry of Textiles, the share of textiles in total exports during April–July 2010 was
11.04%. During 2009–2010, the Indian textile industry was pegged at US$55 billion,
64% of which services domestic demand. In 2010, there were 2,500 textile weaving
factories and 4,135 textile finishing factories in all of India. According to AT
Kearney’s ‘Retail Apparel Index’, India was ranked as the fourth most promising
market for apparel retailers in 2009. Garment industry employs millions of people
around the world, and profits are measured in billions of euros. In this way, the
industry follows the increasingly complex consumer desires, demands and fashion
trends in the world. The basic tone in terms of growth rates, design, fashion,
functionality and wide range of products is given by the centers with high
consumption i.e. the richest states. The second chapter discusses the necessity of
garment producers to invest in the professionals who will be able to explore the
market, management strategies and methods for new product development and
optimization of technological process of making clothes. Disposable incomes,
government policy focused on fast-track textile export growth, and ambitious goals
have created several investment opportunities in India. The garments& fashion
industry provide a wide scope in India. Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurship
(eWe) is a first of its kind social entrepreneurship development platform to strengthen
women ecosystem. Ewe has been founded under the vision of a women entrepreneur,
Mrs. Sangeetha Abhay who has experience in garments and fashion industries with

,garments-Short tops, salwar, bottoms, maxis, and Kurtis. Current women’s economic
empowerment interventions are not enough to overcome all obstacles facing by
women who want to be entrepreneurs. The emerging evidence from psychology and
experimental economics on agency, mindset, and leadership show that for successful
interventions to be transformative, they need to move beyond basic access to financial
and human capital and also tackle central psychological, social, and skills constraints
on women entrepreneurs. EWe intends to focus and ignite a fire amongst women from
a college going student to a middle aged housewife to embrace entrepreneurship as a
viable, fulfilling career option. Many women have found employment in this
company. Thus there is a significant important study in eWe fashions.

,1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study was conducted in ShakthieWe Private Limited Nileshwar, Kasaragod. The
study will be useful to analyze the problems and challenges faced by the women
entrepreneurs. it will make people aware about the work from home opportunity
provided by eWe. The study will be useful as secondary source data for researchers

significant study in eWe fashions.

1.5 NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
The role of women in our society has changed drastically in the past few decades. The
women play a significant role in the economic development of any country. Women
contribute& support the economy extensively in different ways by being employed in
many different sectors. Some women are running small enterprises many of which
have proven to be successful. EWe intends to focus and ignite a fire amongst women
from a college going student to a middle aged housewife to embrace entrepreneurship
as a viable, fulfilling career option. Many women have found employment in this
company. Thus there is a significant important study in eWe fashions. The positive
effect made by women on the economy and development through this social
entrepreneurial development platform is key to the developing world. The problems
faced by the women are now also very common.so Its very important to know the
problems of the women entrepreneurs in the society. Ewe gives better chance to study
this detail. There are a lot of reasons which drags the women back. But ewe gave
them a better place to come out from their comfort zones. The women in the company
are getting a lot of benefits such as income opportunities which will help women to
become independent. So the women won’t be seeking financial helps by men. As a
result the women can take initiative as well as decision for herself. Thus, this will lead
to an impact on the community. Women will lead all the business sectors such as
business, IT, agriculture etc. This will change the traditional social concept against
women.
