(Part Development)
Laymen Working, to receive part design from ERC, connect with supplier, work on modifications in the
part design or manufacturing process, tool design, costing, quotations in prior process & mass
production requirements of the supplier its quality ( testing, assembling, handling) in later phase.
SAP: All the supplier related transactions are made through SAP.
SRM: Supplier’s internet service for connecting with the process.
Pro-X (process excellence) format: reference document formats for sending data to company.
Advance Quality process in depth:
1. Potential supplier assessment - For a New Supplier / For a New location or For a new process /
technology with Existing Supplier
a. The supplier who pass assessment process get RFQ,
b. On submission of RFQ response, the Technical Reviews are evaluated to ensure suppliers
are technically capable of producing parts as per parameters set by Tata Motors.
c. The one who pass technical review and cleared risk assessment may receive new
business depending on accepting bids by purchase officer of company.
Key Stakeholder Meeting, produce well documented RFQ package containing SOR inputs from ERC,
Purchase, supplier quality, SCM.
Risk Assessment, evaluation of risk is done w.r.t. quality, production, design & development,
financial capacity and service. (Output: pass or fail). SQE (supplier quality Er.) receives bid list or he
reviews supplier rating to verify if his organization meets required criteria as per their status of business.
Technical Review, if supplier achieves satisfactory score in risk assessment he is qualified for
technical review. It is done to validate that all the requirements mentioned in the RFQ package have
been understood and the supplier has a plan and is capable to produce parts meeting Tata Motors
Standards. The Technical Review is a pre-requisite for any commercial negotiation and approval at the
Sourcing Table.
Supplier Responsibilities, Suppliers must review information in the SOR and produce upon
information as requested by the Tata Motors SQE.
2. Sourcing decision - Evaluate the sourcing eligibility of the supplier based on the TRSO and risk
criteria. The score band in the risk criteria serves as a guideline to determine if APQP is Supplier
Monitored or Customer Monitored. Suppliers clearing the Technical Review and qualifying the
risk evaluation criteria will be eligible for consideration in the sourcing process.

Risk Assessment (Audits), supplier needs to provide all the required information and support audit
by the time. There is 14 point table for APQP where the supplier is assessed.
3. Advance Product Quality Planning - APQP is a structured method of defining and establishing
the steps necessary to assure that a product satisfies the customer (Tata Motors). These reviews
are done by Tata if APQP is customer monitored and reviewed by supplier and updated to the
TATA motors.
a. To direct resources to satisfy the customer requirements.
b. To promote early identification of required changes
c. To avoid late changes
d. To provide a quality product on time
Timing Chart, (CPM, Gantt chart) developed and reviewed time to time to check if the
manufacturing process is going on in accordance with it.
Project Plan, APQP project planning facilitates communication between the supplier and
customer to clarify requirements that translate into more detailed specifications.
Supplier Responsibilities, Create an APQP Timing Chart or equivalent and track tasks to
completion in line with chart
4. Pre-Production Meeting - Pre-Production Meeting is a review mechanism to track the progress
of all APQP Tasks in the APQP Project Plan and APQP Timing Chart . The periodic activities (Gate
Reviews) scheduled by Tata Motors SQE, which are conducted throughout the APQP cycle to
evaluate progress get started after this meeting.
Gate Reviews, Gate Reviews are done to ensure that all tasks in the APQP project plan due at a
particular Gate are completed.
Supplier Responsibilities, Ensure completion of required activities as per APQP plan at various
gates. Review the completion status of actions required for compliance to SQ and Part Specific SOR,
Lessons learned.
