II. Objectives
● To confirm the presence of the group III cations from a stock solution using
precipitation tests.
● To determine the characteristics of the cations while undergoing different
processes.
III. Introduction

The cations of group III are precipitated in a solution containing ammonia, ammonium
chloride, and ammonium sulfide; consequently, the group precipitates a mixture of sulfide
and hydroxides. The solubility products of the Group III cations are too large to permit
them to precipitate in Group II. There are seven cations in group III which are iron, cobalt,
nickel, zinc, manganese, aluminum, and lastly chromium.
