Fear Response
● Enhanced stimulus
○ Enhance stimulus is a neutral stimulus.
● Unpaired Stimulus
○ The unpaired just means that it is neutral and time is before it was paired
together.
● Amygdala
○ Amygdala is about fear, but fear also gets in the role like risk taking behaviors.

● What you're asked to do on this task is to look at different faces.
○ You are asked to be able to help what emotion is displayed on a face.
○ In this control group, they are able to recognize other people's faces.
○ In the brain damage group, they are able to recognize other emotions.
○ However, there is a major difference in how people can recognize the upgrade
■ When there's damage to the amygdala, it's going to impact just or not,
maybe just primarily, your ability to recognize fear.

Lateral Nucleus
● The lateral nucleus is critical to the acquisition and maintenance of the learned fear in
the central output region, triggering the effects of behaviors and the autonomic
response.
● The lateral nucleus is the area of the amygdala that is going to be primarily responsible
for the acquisition of alert fear response.
● Your acquisition in the lateral nucleus is mediated by long term potentiation.

Acquisition Phase
● The acquisition phase is going to be important to learn a particular fear.
● Example
○ If aggression is linked to a hypothalamus, If you stimulate the hypothalamus, it
should cause a decrease in aggression.
■ They stimulated different regions of the hypothalamus.
■ They stimulate the medial hypothalamus and not induce just affective
aggression.
■ Affective aggression
● It's the idea of emotional aggression.
● If you are stimulating the lateral hypothalamus, it is causing
aggression.
○ It's stimulating inducing this predatory aggression.
