Applications of Intelligence Assessment
The WAIS-IV is a generally used as a standardized intelligence test for adolescents and adults.
My assigned client is the Business Owner of a printing company with 50 employees. There is not
much information available as to what the client does daily. I am not sure if he is an active
business owner or an owner who is less involved in the business, since everybody varies. I would
say that the standardized intelligence test would conclude the probability of the business owner’s
capability and psychological competency as it shares the fact of business concern.
To evaluate the circumstance of the matter, under short notice, I have selected three of the subtest
from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale- Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV).
Information would be the first test to be applied, this refers to “Questions such as these, which
are wide-ranging and tap general knowledge, learning, and memory, are asked. Interests,
education, cultural background, and reading skills are some influencing factors in the score
achieved.” (Cohen, R. J., Swerdlik, M. E., & Sturman, E. D. (2018). Information is really helpful
when it comes to knowing your client and how they are, think and their basic capabilities. Every
person is different, their knowledge fluctuates as well as the ability to learn new things. This test
would shed light on my client’s awareness, educational level, and their culture. If my client is or
is not American or speaks the language natively, I do not believe it will affect the assessments
outcome.
Comprehension Test would be applied, which is things “In general, these questions tap social
comprehension, the ability to organize and apply knowledge, and what is colloquially referred to
as “common sense.” (Cohen, R. J., Swerdlik, M. E., & Sturman, E. D. (2018). The
comprehension assessment is important because, it will give us an understanding of how my
client claims common sense decisions. This is important as a business owner because common
sense is what gets most of us by on a day to day basis from the smallest to the biggest issues. If
the client was not an English speaker I do not suppose it would affect any of the test outcome on
the client. Every person should know common sense and how to act and react to a situation.
Picture completion would be the third test I would choose to conduct which implies, “to identify
what important part is missing from a picture. For example, the testtaker might be shown a
picture of a chair with one leg missing. This subtest draws on visual perception abilities,
alertness, memory, concentration, attention to detail, and ability to differentiate essential from
nonessential detail. Because respondents may point to the missing part, this test provides a good
nonverbal estimate of intelligence. (Cohen, R. J., Swerdlik, M. E., & Sturman, E. D. (2018). This
assessment is essential because we need an outlook of his or her cognitive ability. The parts this
test examines defines the capabilities of the owner. It proves how good his working memory is
long and short term, his attention skills, along with his logic and reasoning. As an owner you
must remember things like ordering products, paying your workers, or even remembering
everybody’s name. Being an owner things as well can become hectic so it is important that his
attention skills are outstanding as well as being logic when things back fire, because it does
