NR631 Week 5 Discussion: Resource Management in Project Management
As a project manager, part of your responsibility will be identifying resources that you
have available and those resources that you may need in addition to what is currently available.
Once you know what physical and human resources you have at your disposal, you then use the
PM tools introduced in the lesson to allocate and schedule them. In thinking about your project,
what resources might you anticipate being the most concerning to secure and/or manage? I look
forward to your thoughts and to interacting with some of you this week!
Dr. Williams and Class,
We are asked to discuss anticipated resources needed for the chosen PM tools for this
week's lesson. When beginning any process improvement activity, it is critical to gather essential
information to develop a successful project. Davidson, 2016 writes about the importance of four
necessary tools which help set the foundation for developing and monitoring a healthcare
project: (project charter, performance improvement, stem and leaf plot, and summary grid. In
addition, having visual aids is a crucial factor when developing a project that assists in giving
teams where improvement is needed and when progress is achieved.
Due to the selected project, the tools required are not high-dollar needs. The biggest
concern will be completing the needed observations in two weeks, per The Joint Commission
recommendations. This time of the year is a busy period for the operating room. Ensuring we
have the needed amount of time and personnel out of staffing will be tricky to accomplish the
task of direct observation of surgical pauses in the operating room suite. The bulk of financial
resources are coming from the personnel involved in the project management team. Fortunately
for my current organization that I have partnered with, the company has unique funding set for PI
and PM for the organization. Tools used during the development and informative of all team
members are Microsoft Teams, which will assist active participants in tracking and updating the
project's progress. This tool also provides a means of communication when questions arise.
For non-active project members, emails will be used for weekly updates and access to the
Microsoft Teams app link for curious check-in for those members who want more than weekly
updates.
The top priority of this project is developing methods to empower team members in using
their voice in promoting patient safety, professional, respectful communication, and
interprofessional collaboration. The success of the chosen process improvement revolves around
team members holding each other accountable and making the proper judgment to halt when the
surgical team is not paying attention. Multiple studies have proved how critical the development
of interprofessional collaboration and communication is in high-paced departments. Turkelson et
al., 2017 stated in their research that having valuable interprofessional relationships is imperative
to patients' safety.
