Tina Jones was admitted at the hospital for two weeks according to the patient history provided. During her admission, she stated that she had experienced an accident while climbing concrete stairs, which left her right ankle twisted and resulted to a wound on the ball of her foot. The x-rays taken at the emergency department were negative and she was prescribed tramadol for the pain. Whenever she takes a shower, Tina has been cleaning the wound and applying an antibiotic ointment. The ankles were swollen and the bottom of her foot was extremely painful. She indicated that the pain is sharp and throbbing that she could barely endure her body weight. Also, she reported to the attending doctor that over the past two days the affected ball of her foot had become increasingly reddened and inflamed. From the wound, she elaborated that pus and blood was oozing. However, she said that there was no odor from the wound and her shoes felt tight. Over the past few days, she reports that she has been afebrile. Notably, she is allergic to cats and penicillin. According to Gattullo and Edelman (2009), “Diabetes is a disease that affects the way that your body uses and breaks down food. Most of the food that you eat changes into glucose or sugar, the sugar that is produced into energy” (Gattullo & Edelman, 2009). Insulin is produced by the pancreas and, therefore, diabetes mainly affects this important organ. Insulin is responsible for aiding glucose absorption into the body cells. Sugar is used for energy in the body. Thus, diabetes should be managed properly since it means that your body does not have the ability to produce enough insulin on its own. Notably, lack of insulin means that the blood will have high levels of glucose, which is detrimental to the body. The dietary intake to manage diabetes should include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The most effective way to reduce the glucose levels in the blood is to regulate the intake of carbohydrates in order to limit the amount of simple sugars. The most recommended food combination for diabetes should include plenty of vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and fruits. Most importantly, lean and white meat is recommended for proteins. Ensure that you avoid junk food, high fructose, sweetened snacks, and gluten. It is vital to also manage the administration of medications. The insulin levels need to be closely monitored, understood, and recognizing the distinctions between the various types of insulin and how they impact the glucose levels in the body (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 2016). Physical exercise is also recommended to foster a healthy lifestyle. It is essential to have a routine of taking simple walks and non-sedentary activities in order to minimize the effects of the condition.
