According to Sipes (2016), the most important aspect of planning a project is the actual
planning itself. He believes that when you do not plan for the project, you are setting yourself up
for failure. Many times, when planning a project and you are not properly set up you are left
with the possibility of being misled, misusing funds, and endangering the constraints of
restrictions and barriers in which prevent the project from actually being completed
successfully. This project in which I have organized and planned is at a facility that has seen
an uptick in their hospital acquired infections (HAI). Through the process and knowing what I
know, I began digging and recall that hand hygiene has a direct correlation with HAI’s. The
scope of the issue is there is not enough education throughout the facility regarding hand
hygiene and its benefits (Appendix A).
An important aspect of all project management and development is the accurate use of
evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP focuses mainly on the outcomes, quality improvements, and
identification of different approaches when in search for a better outcome. Using EBP is used to
be able to close the gap between the research being done and the study that is being conducted
(Strategies for Nurse Managers, 2018). It is important for leaders to be able to lead by example
and teach staff on how to use EBP when conducting research studies and project development.
As leaders, it should be taught to staff that they need to be able to guide educate and promote
EBP-related behaviors by all members of the team.
It is important for one to understand the basis of the project being conducted, as this is the
beginning of having a successful outcome. In my research I came to fine that HAI’s and hand
hygiene have a direct correlation; increased hand hygiene compliance means decreased HAI
